Dragon Stories
Stories of Dragons are found all over the world. The oldest known dragon story is probably that of the Rainbow Serpent, passed down from the aboriginal Ngadjonji tribe in Australia, which is believed to date back to around 10,000 BC. The oldest known depictions of Dragons were left by the Xinglongwa people who lived in northeastern China between 6000 and 5000 BC. The oldest know writings about Dragons date back to the Sumerian story of Anzu, also known as Zu and Anzud, around 3500 BC. The written stories of the Egyptian dragon, Apep, are believed to also date back to the 3rd millennium BC. Dragons may be described in slightly different ways in different areas and times, but are often depicted as being serpentine or reptilian. They usually hatch from eggs, having either feathered or scaled bodies. Many times dragons breath fire, and their blood is poisonous. They often live in or are associated with water. They can control the weather, especially causing storms, or disasters. Usually they can fly, even if they do not have wings. They often guard something of value, like knowledge or some type of treasure, and of course, they usually have magical or supernatural powers. Today, the most popular stories are either based on the Oriental Dragons, who are usually benevolent, and the European Dragons, who are malevolent. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rules. |

I love dragon stories! :)
It's interesting that so many cultures from different areas of the world would share such an important myth.
I have never met a dragon I didn't like.
